Palomar Park, just north of Emerald Hills and east of San Carlos' Crestview area, is another Redwood City neighborhood that is formally part of unincorporated San Mateo County. Palomar Park is a community of over 250 households with portion which remain rural in character - including roads abandoned by the County and maintained by the residents. Residents have had to paint there own fire hydrants and many feel a strong sense of community here where new homeowners can share in the rich heritage of Palomar Park's past history. Palomar Property Owners get together regularly for annual picnics, road clean ups, repair and maintenance of their unique wooden signs and mailboxes and to work together on a variety of neighborhood projects.
